Does sharing visual AI with your kids to increase their creativity or decrease it?

First of all, there’s no escaping AI. AI is the future, and whatever we see today is just a small taste of what our kids will live in ten years.

With no escaping AI, we should teach them how to navigate the world.

Does it take away from their creativity?

As anyone who has tried to create something on AI will attest, there’s a lot of creativity needed in addition to getting fast results through, say, Midjourney. The thing that is inside our mind is not the thing we get when we ask for something specific. It maybe a shortcut. It is definitely faster. It may be more beautiful than we may draw. But it is not the thing in our minds.

AI is a tool that helps us express ourselves. The need for self expression is not taken away by someone else or something else being able to create. The need for self expression is within us.

Therefore, what we need to teach our kids is that they can express themselves better (sometimes) with AI. But AI doesn’t take anything that they have to say or create. AI can’t draw like them, create like them, imagine like them. Only they can do that.

If we show them the difference between their process and the AI’s process, we’ll be building healthier children with a better ability to express themselves, without and with AI.
